Our Baby is TURNING 1 year old!!!
Sunday June 29th @ 2pm we will be having a birthday party for our puppy, Brutus and his best friend Kohen who also will be turning 1 year old at Big Walnut Dog Park. We would like all interested to join in this event. We will be having a cake baked by Heidi's Homemade, Inc. The ingrediants will be present for all owners to check out if desired before having your pet enjoy the tasty treat. The cake is organic and pet friendly. We will also have people cookies for the owners to enjoy as well. We will kick off the party with playing inside the fenced in area, followed by all owners that want to participate bringing their dogs out of the fence to wish the birthday dogs a happy birthday, then enjoy some cake. Once finished the play dates are back on. Owners are not obligated to stay a certian amount of time, leave at will. All we ask is a Happy Birthday to the birthday boys! Any questions or if YOUR DOG IS CELEBRATING his special day too email me at mustang6027@yahoo.com for information on how to join your dog with our birthday puppies!
Thanks, Ashley & Isaac

We have been to this dog park several times now and we love it! Our dog Brutus loves it as well! He can't get enough swimming and we love that he loves to swim. He's most of the time interested more in chasing others or being chased but hey he's having fun. It lets him get his engery under control for a while. He's a lab/beagle so he's wired! He's all black with a little white patch on his chest. He's great with others and this is why we're going to have a party for him on his birthday! We want all to come that want to join in this special time for him. It will be Sunday June 29th at 2pm. We will be having a dog bakery bake him and his friend Kohen (also having a birthday within the same week) a cake and will be sharing with all owenrs who would like to participate. More info coming in another post. Any questions please email me at Mustang6027@yahoo.com. Ashley & Isaac

Today was the first time we took Asha and Sasha to the "doggie park". They ran and played with all the dogs. There were all types of our four legged friends, and we were amazed on how well the dog got along with each other. Humans need to take a lesson from them. If they can get along, why can't we - the country would be a lot better off. When we returned home, the four of us were "zonked out". We are looking forward to taking our babies there again. Thank you for a wonderful park.

I visited the dog park today 5/13/2008. I have a black and white lab/border collie mix. He was attacked by some kind of pitbull mix(orange bindle). If anyone was there I was the one who had to jump into the lake to save him. I noticed there was one person who was taking pictures so if that person was able to get a picture of that dog or the owner please let me know. Also if any one else has any information for me on this please let me know. There were many people who ran over to help me and I greatly appreciated it. I have filed a police report and any information would be wonderful. Apollo is my dog's name and he has a split down his left ear, but is doing ok.

Part 3

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
1. Eat less
2. Don't ask for money all the time
3 Are easier to train ( except Terriers and ShihTzu)
4. Normally come when called
5. Never ask to drive the car
6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
7. Don't smoke or drink
8. Don't have to buy the latest fashions
9. Don't want to wear your clothes
10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and...
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

THE END

Part 2

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it 'fur'niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

PART 1

To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - nose height.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king- sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years -- canine or feline attendance is not required.

Great park! My dog loves it. The dog ambassadors are friendly and made us feel comfortable when we were worried about initially taking our dog off leash. We might have left and never discovered what a jewel we had in the Big Walnut Dog Park if not for them.

I think that dispite a few really stupid owners that this park is fantastic. Remember, the dogs are not stupid,,, it's the owners that can be stupid.

Yes, we bring both of our dogs to this park and for the most part we enjoy seeing them socialize and explore their new found freedoms from their leashes.

Ask yourself this,,, have you ever seen a dog stop and read the signs outside of the gate before they enter?

* No children under the age of 12
* No food
* All animals must be neutered
* Animals must be attended
* Pick up after your pet
* No toys, unless your dog is willing to share them

It takes more than one adult present to confront those who do not have sense that God apparently forgot to give them.

Am I discouraged, NO! I have faith that the dogs will prevail.

bigwalnut:
Some of the rules mentioned above are not park rules at Big Walnut Dog Park (i.e. children under 12 and animals must be neutered). Toys from home are discouraged to reduce resource guarding of favorite items.

A nice place to bring your dog(s). I've been a few times. I'm glad the pond has been fenced off because it is so filthy. The owners were cool.

I would frequent it more often but I find the park volunteer bothersome. She doens't give people space. For example, one time a few dog-owners were clustered together, quietly enjoying their dogs at play, and when they saw Shirley entering the park, I kid you not, they all disbursed. I’ve even heard a few dog-owners verbalize that they were relieved when she left the park.

Overall, I believe that the volunteer means well and I am grateful for the time and energy the volunteers donate to make the park a nice place.

Happy New Year to all!

Their is a male white who drives a black 4-runner. He comes to the park and owns a brown and white St. Bernard and a large black dog. The St. Bernard is well in escess of 100 lbs. The black dog is approximately 90 lbs. This man cannot or will not control his dogs. they are aggressive and attacked my dog just outside the front gate. They were also observed trying to attack (aggressively) either another man and/or his dog. A police report is on file. At this time, the people who run the dog park do not have a plan to keep out overly aggressive dogs and forbid them from returning. I think they are working on this problem but until then, we can only warn others about problem dogs and their owners. If you see this man and his dogs, you may want to exorcise caution.

This dog park has been a wonderful thing for my dog and I. My god has tons of energy and this is the best way for her to socialize with other dogs and wear herself out. She even got over her fear of water at this park and now her favorite activity is swimming.

Thanks to all our volunteers who do such a great job!!

It's a nice park except for the careless dog owners and the fact that it's in the hood. Maybe there's a connection there...

This is one of the main park areas police have had problems with "adult activity" recently.
